CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
1. Respect: Always demonstrate mutual respect amongst your peers and teacher. Likewise, I will demonstrate respect for you. Remember, differences of opinion will occur. Learn to “disagree agreeably,” especially in heated class discussions.
2. Responsibility: Come prepared, with all necessary class materials. Do NOT bring gum, food, and drinks which can spill. You may bring water bottles with fastened lids. Let’s keep our classroom clean.
3. Procedure: Be in your seat and working when the tardy bell rings. Walk into the classroom respectfully. You may not leave your seat unless otherwise noted by the teacher. Be on-task throughout the class period. If you finish work early, you will complete one of the listed Additional Tasks:
- Complete unfinished English assignments.
- Work on tonight’s English homework.
- Review Common Core/Relevant Vocabulary
- Work on a Writing/Poetry Response
- Read a “choice” novel and practice reading techniques (SQ4R).
5. School Policy: In addition to my class rules, you are to follow all rules and regulations vividly expressed in your Pine City High School Student Handbook.
IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO FOLLOW CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Classroom Consequences:
- Non-Verbal Warning (Making eye contact to catch your attention; requiring that you return to task).
- Verbal Warning (Calling your name and verbalizing that you have a second warning).
- Refocus Form:
- You will sign a paper indicating what behavior has taken place and you will agree to get back on-task. You will see me briefly after class to discuss why the behavior occurred. This gives you a chance to explain the problem and how it can be solved.

- Reflection Form:
- You will answer a series of questions for metacognitive reflection. Questions are: What is the problem? What is causing the problem? What action/s will I take regarding the problem? - Discipline Referral:
- Repetitive misbehavior will result in a discipline referral. You will be sent to the office for a BLC form. You will spend the remainder of the class period in BLC. The principal may take other actions regarding your misbehavior.
TARDINESS:
Come to class and be in your seat on-time. If you are not both in class and in your seat when the tardy bell rings, you are tardy. Three tardies not only count as an absence. Three tardies will get you detention.
- First Tardy: The tardy is taken down and you are warned to come to class on-time.
- Second Tardy: The tardy is taken down and you are reminded that the third tardy equals detention.
- Third Tardy: You will have detention. Any tardies past three will send you to detention. The tardy system does not reset at three tardies. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR TARDIES.
HOMEWORK POLICY:
If you do not have your homework or other assignments on the day they are due, you will sign a Student Responsibility Card. On the card, you will place a check by which sentences apply to you. Examples are:
- I didn’t have materials in class today.
- I didn’t have the assigned homework.
- I did the homework but didn’t bring it to school.
- I did not return material, such as a progress/report card.
You will provide an explanation for not having work. Parents will be notified that your Card for missed assignments is going home. Both you and your parent/guardian will sign the Card. Then, you will return the Card to me. Failure to return the form will result in detention.
MAKE-UP WORK:
Your assignments will drop one letter grade for each day they are not returned. You have three days to make up work. On the fourth day, your letter grade is an F for that specific assignment. In the case of excused absences, you have two days for every one day absent to make-up your assigned work for full-credit. This is in accordance with the Pine City School Student Handbook. In the case of family or severe emergencies, inform me of the situation and I will work with you to provide you a make-up work plan. Family emergencies consist of: Honest reporting of a death in the family/Physical harm or injury. Just update me on issues if they arise.
Tests may be retaken. You have one week from the date of your missed test to come see me and schedule a time after school to retake your test. After one week, you will not be allowed to retake a test. In the case of excused absences exceeding five days, you have one week after returning to school to retake your test.
WHERE DO I FIND MY MAKE-UP WORK?
All copies of missed assignments will go into your classroom folder under the heading “Did You Miss Class? Find Assignments Here.” You will familiarize yourself with the location of the classroom folder file for missed assignments. They will be on a desk in the classroom. You will sign a sheet showing that you ‘checked out’ your work and now have your assignments to complete. You may also visit my weebly website to find missing assignments.
